The Grieving Brain Support Group & Book Club – Jan 2025 Virtual
Group Description: A different style of support group. For the curious, science-oriented, thinking, reflective griever. Join us for a unique combination of virtual peer support and education in this closed, curriculum-based support group. Over five weeks, we will navigate the complexities of grief while reading and discussing “The Grieving Brain” by Mary-Frances O’Connor. We’ll explore different aspects of grief each week, from understanding the brain’s role in processing grief to how we can cope with the emotional and cognitive impacts of grief. Acquisition of book required for participation – borrow from the library, buy the book, etc.
Outline:
Week 1: Introduction, Chapters 1 & 2 (Walking in the Dark, Searching for Closeness)
Week 2: Chapters 3 & 4 (Believing in Magical Thoughts, Adapting Across Time)
Week 3: Chapters 5, 6, & 7 (Developing Complications, Yearning for Your Loved One, Having the Wisdom to Know the Difference)
Week 4: Chapters 8 & 9 (Spending Time in the Past, Being in the Present)
Week 5: Chapters 10 & 11 (Mapping the Future, Teaching What You Have Learned)
